5 PS1 Video Games That Are Worth A Fortune Today

A handful of games from the original Sony PlayStation era have transformed from affordable entertainment into pricey collector's treasures. While most PS1 titles can be picked up for pocket change, certain rare discs now command prices that rival used cars.

Topping the list is "Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete." This role-playing game, released in 1999, came in a large box with extras like a cloth map and hardcover manual. A complete copy in good condition regularly sells for over 500 dollars. The game's limited print run and fragile packaging make it a tough find today.

Another heavy hitter is "Suikoden II." This cult-classic RPG saw a small release in North America. Players who held onto their copies are sitting on gold, as loose discs go for around 300 dollars, while complete sets often exceed 700 dollars. The game's deep story and high demand keep prices climbing.

"Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" is a must-mention. While not as rare as others, the original black label version with no "Greatest Hits" banner fetches 150 to 200 dollars. Its status as one of the best games ever made fuels the price.

"Tales of Destiny" is another expensive title. This action RPG had a small North American run, and complete copies now sell for 400 to 600 dollars. The sequel never made it to the US, adding to the original's mystique.

Finally, "Klonoa: Door to Phantomile" rounds out the list. This charming platformer was overlooked at launch. Today, a complete copy can cost over 200 dollars. Its unique art style and emotional story have earned it a dedicated following.

For anyone with an old collection in the attic, it might be worth a look. These five games prove that yesterday's bargain bin can be today's treasure chest.

1995's Mortal Kombat Is a Bad Movie, But Does That Even Matter?
