Warner Bros. Games has released "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight," a new video game that smashes together characters and settings from multiple decades of Batman film history. Rather than sticking to one specific movie timeline, the game pulls from the 1960s Adam West series, the Tim Burton films, the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight trilogy, and the recent Robert Pattinson era. Players can expect to see the 1966 Batmobile racing alongside the Tumbler from "The Dark Knight," all rendered in the signature Lego brick style.
The story mode mixes plot points from different movies into a single, humorous campaign. Gotham City itself is a patchwork of locations, from the gothic architecture of Burton's version to the gritty, rain-soaked streets of Nolan's vision. The game also includes characters from the wider DC universe, including Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League, though the focus remains on Batman's rogues gallery.
Developer TT Games has leaned into the absurdity of mixing these distinct tones. One level might have players solving a puzzle in the style of the 1960s show, while the next throws them into a stealth sequence inspired by "Batman Begins." The voice acting mimics the original actors where possible, and the script pokes fun at the inconsistencies between the different movie versions. For longtime fans, the appeal is seeing these separate worlds collide in a way that only Lego can pull off without feeling forced.
