4 upcoming zombie video games every Walking Dead fan needs to play

Watching a zombie movie or TV show can be a pretty horrifying experience. We see beloved characters face the dead on multiple occasions, have very close calls, and sometimes lose people we care about. But there is a big difference between watching a story and living it. For fans of "The Walking Dead" who want to step into the action, the next wave of video games promises to deliver that exact feeling of dread and survival.

First up is "Dead Island 2," which has been a long time coming. While it leans more into dark humor than the serious drama of the TV show, the core gameplay is all about surviving a zombie outbreak in a quarantined Los Angeles. You will craft weapons, explore ruined neighborhoods, and fight unique infected enemies that feel just as threatening as any walker horde.

Then there is "The Last of Us Part I" remake for PC. While not a new story, it is the definitive version of a game that defined the zombie genre. It focuses on the emotional weight of survival, the tough choices you have to make, and the bond between characters. It is the closest you will get to the tone of the early seasons of "The Walking Dead" in a video game.

For something different, "Stray Souls" is an upcoming indie horror game that uses a fixed camera angle like the old Resident Evil games. It promises a creepy atmosphere and a story about a teenager inheriting a house in a strange town. The zombies here are more supernatural, but the feeling of being trapped and outnumbered will feel very familiar.

Finally, "The Walking Dead: Destinies" is a direct attempt to let fans rewrite the story of the TV show. You play through the major events of the first four seasons, but you can make different choices. Can you save a character who died? Can you change the fate of the prison group? It is a rough-looking game, but the concept is pure fan service for anyone who has ever yelled at their screen.
