Nintendo has officially revealed Xenoblade Genesis, the next major entry in the beloved RPG series, launching exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2. The announcement came during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation, showing off a world that promises to be even larger and more ambitious than previous games in the franchise.
The game is set in a brand-new universe, separate from the stories of Shulk and Rex. Early footage shows vast floating continents connected by mysterious energy bridges, with players controlling a new protagonist named Kael. The combat system appears to blend the real-time action of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 with new mechanics that take advantage of the Switch 2's upgraded hardware. Monolith Soft, the developer behind the series, has confirmed that the game will run at a smooth 60 frames per second, a first for the franchise on a Nintendo console.
Fans can expect the trademark deep storytelling, massive open areas filled with unique creatures, and a soundtrack composed by the returning Yasunori Mitsuda. The game also supports the Switch 2's new "Focus Mode," which lets players pause combat to issue precise commands to their party members. A collector's edition will include an art book, a steelbook case, and a replica of Kael's blade weapon. Xenoblade Genesis is scheduled to release in late 2025.
