Square Enix has finally pulled back the curtain on the final chapter of its ambitious remake trilogy. The third and concluding installment is officially titled Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. The company also confirmed that the game will launch on all major platforms at the same time, breaking the previous pattern of timed exclusivity.
The announcement came alongside a deeper look at the game's core identity. According to the development team, the central theme of Revelation is "resolve." This marks a deliberate narrative shift from the previous entries. The first game, Remake, focused on the theme of "fate," while the second installment, Rebirth, centered on "unknown." Now, the final chapter will explore how the characters confront their past choices and commit to a final path forward.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase shared that the concept of resolve applies to both the story and the gameplay. Players will see Cloud and the party make definitive decisions that shape the world's future, moving beyond the events of the original 1997 game.
The simultaneous release strategy is a major move for Square Enix. While previous parts launched first on PlayStation consoles before arriving on PC, Revelation will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC from day one. This decision signals a shift in the company's approach to reaching a wider audience.
No specific release date was given, but the team stated that development is progressing smoothly. Fans can expect more details in the coming months as the project moves toward its final form.
