The creative team behind the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project has revealed that the ending for the entire trilogy was mapped out from the very beginning. In a recent interview, co-director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that he feels confident about how the story will conclude, noting that the original game's director, Yoshinori Kitase, contributed to the final act.
Hamaguchi explained that the team did not improvise the narrative as they went along. Instead, they established a clear endpoint early in development, ensuring that the three-part saga would feel cohesive. He emphasized that Kitase's involvement was key in shaping the conclusion, providing a sense of continuity with the 1997 classic while still allowing for new twists.
The remake trilogy has been known for expanding on the original story, introducing alternate timeline elements and deeper character moments. Hamaguchi acknowledged that some fans have concerns about how these changes will pay off, but he remains confident that the ending will satisfy both longtime players and newcomers. He did not reveal specific plot details but assured that the team has stayed true to the spirit of the original while delivering a fresh experience.
The third and final installment is still in development, with no release date announced yet.
